It’s release day of a new track and, with it, that feeling that I’m doing both too much and not enough to get the word out there to people. What I am trying to get my head around is how relatively unimportant release day for a track is, compared to what a piece of music comes to mean to people in future days, weeks, months, decades. Despite knowing this, all my instincts, fine-tuned by a decade and a half of Web 2.0, still make every release day feel like a sink and swim moment.

This is the third single from my upcoming second piano album, called ‘Into a Whirlpool’. It’s the piece that, when it came together, made me feel like I was on the right track with the album. Weaving the melody into the midst of the repeating ostinato was a fun technical challenge, both in the composition and performance, and paved the way for a lot of the other arrangements you’ll be able to hear on the record.

You can hear this track on SoundCloud (above), or on your music service of choice. I also recorded a live performance which you can also find below.

Thanks to Yuka Matsuhashi for beautiful artwork for the release, and to Sam O’Donovan Jones for the cover design.
